This would prove most advantageous for Walt because he would be able to briefly find rooming with his uncle Robert. So, with just $40 in his pocket and his prized pilot film, Walt Disney left Kansas City bound for California. As in the olden days of radio, casting is unrelated to physical type, age or even gender.

These are the California cities where $150,000 still buys you a home. Could you live here?

This location was ideal as it was a short walk from their uncle Robert’s home where Walt was currently sleeping. Within a short time the brothers found living arrangements in an apartment and then a rented room all within a quarter of a mile from the Disney Bros. It would be simple to reboot “King of the Hill” as a live-action production, to locate actors who resembled their animated counterparts, to re-create the Hills’ house in perfect detail and proportion.

DISNEY BROTHERS STUDIO

Though devastating, this chain of events would ultimately climax with the birth of the world’s most iconic and recognizable cartoon character - Mickey Mouse. By December of 1925, Charles Mintz was asserting a tighter grip on Walt Disney! With a staff of just seven, the Disney Brothers Studio was struggling to meet the production schedule deadlines in force by Mintz. In addition, Walt’s creative direction was constantly being hampered by the pushing from the distributor’s own insertions. Walt’s choice for Alice (Virginia Davis) had recently been swapped by Mintz for the problematic Margie Gay. As if that wasn’t enough, the six minute films began to push aside Alice, because Mintz considered Alice virtually inconsequential to the success of the series despite Walt’s vision.

After marrying Lillian Bounds, an ink and paint girl at his Studios, the Disney couple moved into their first Los Angeles apartment from 1925 to 1926. Then, their second rented apartment, a location at 1307 N. Commonwealth Ave, became home until 1927, although it has since turned into Sunset Nursery.

Tall actors may play short people, young actors may impersonate seniors, plain people may play beautiful ones; it’s fluidity nonpareil. On “Bob’s Burgers,” mother Linda and daughter Tina are played, respectively, by John Roberts and Dan Mintz; Regina King voiced brothers Riley and Huey on “The Boondocks”; and on “Duncanville,” Poehler voices both mother Anne and teenage son Duncan. Sadly, the home in North by Northwest is not a real house that you can visit, but was instead built on an MGM set.

Among the not-all-that-many new series premiering this second pandemic fall television season is Paramount+’s lively “The Harper House,” a situation comedy starring Rhea Seehorn. It’s about a family that, having lost its main source of income — the mother’s job — moves from the richer side of town into a fortuitously inherited property on the poorer side. That’s not an unfamiliar premise in the history of television, but what sets “The Harper House” apart is that it is a cartoon. Another building which clearly inspired the architecture of the Jetsons universe was the Chemosphere. Designed by John Lautner and built in 1960, the home looks like it could take off into the sky like a flying saucer at any moment. The Chemosphere sits in the Hollywood Hills and has been an incredibly popular shooting location for films and TV shows that need a futuristic feel — including a 1964 episode of “The Outer Limits” set in the 21st century.

Jetsonian architecture also seems to draw from the work of Charles Schridde in his series of ads for Motorola in the early 1960s which ran in the Saturday Evening Post and Life magazine. You can get away with things in a cartoon you couldn’t in a live-action series, or that at least would register differently. It is hard to imagine Bill Burr’s profane 1970s serial period piece “F Is for Family,” on Netflix — a show that runs long on humiliation, trauma, shouting and a very real sort of violence — coming off as funny or ultimately sweet as it does if it weren’t a cartoon. In early episodes of “The Simpsons,” Homer would grab Bart by the throat and squeeze; try that with live actors and wait for the tweets.

Old run-down house remodelled into cute traditional suburban cottage. Four vector buildings sketch drawings in perspective view with trees. There were twice as many animated cartoons produced during 1925 than the preceding year. This is because Winkler Pictures began to demand an increased production schedule of two short films every month. A close examination of photographs of Disney Brothers Studio taken during 1925 reveal that artwork was displayed in the window and near the doorway to advertise the popular Walt Disney “comics” produced here. With a $500 loan from their uncle Robert and their first check from Winkler Pictures, the Disney Brothers moved into their first studio, in the back room of Mc Rae & Abernathy Holly-Vermont Reality at 4651 Kingswell Avenue (in the modern-day Silverlake district).

Next, the Disneys moved to this five-acre, idyllic storybook-style home in 1932, staying until 1950. Featuring a screening room, home gym, and even a miniature Snow White’s cottage in the yard, current owner Timur Bekmambetov sometimes allows private viewings of the house through Los Feliz tour organizations for limited periods of time. Trying times and victories were ahead for Walt and Roy. Charles Mintz would end Walt’s cherished Alice Comedies and demand that Walt create a new character - Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Finally (in a manipulative business move), Mintz would assume ownership of the newly created Oswald character and steal away most of Walt Disney Studios’ staff.

But as I pointed out in my post about Googie architecture from last year, the artists and animators working on “The Jetsons” didn’t really need to leave their own backyards for inspiration. The Hanna-Barbera Studio which produced “The Jetsons” was in Hollywood and in the late 1950s and early 1960s buildings all across Los Angeles had that mid-20th century modern look that would become identified as Jetsonian. During our visit, she briefly took time to show us a few photographs and reflect on individuals who have visited from Florida, and even Japan. Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport Executive Director Bryan Malinowski died days after he was shot when ATF agents were were executing a warrant March 19 at his home in Little Rock. The ATF said agents returned fire after Malinowski shot at the agents, striking and injuring one of them. Hernandez’s proposal would apply to rent-stabilized buildings with five or more units that are occupied by tenants. It would remain in effect for up to two years or until “appropriate land use regulatory controls” are adopted by the City Council to provide protections for tenants in rent-stabilized apartments. That so-called “discretionary review” is not allowed under Bass’ ED1. An attorney for Malinowski’s family has said he was a gun collector and wasn’t aware he was under investigation for his reselling firearms at gun shows. Arkansas State Police said it would forward the case file on its investigation Tuesday to the local prosecutor to determine whether the shooting was justified. Such investigations don’t include a recommendation, state police said, and wouldn’t review the agency’s tactics.

Nestled amongst eight acres of lush tropical gardens, and perched high atop the cliffs of Negril's West End, the Rockhouse property is comprised of forty rooms with all the comforts of a boutique hotel. Each of the rooms are built from timber, stone and thatch and designed to exist in harmony with the jungle-like garden and volcanic rock of the breathtaking natural landscape. ‎The No Film School Podcast: Live from NAB 2024: Blackmagic's CEO on the URSA Cine 12K & Future of AI on Apple Podcasts

blackmagic design ursa

The URSA has a larger top resolution at 4.6K over DCI 4K on the C200. Additionally, the top frame rate of 120 fps on the URSA is available at a higher resolution at 2K over the 120 fps in HD available on the C200. We found ourselves with the first URSA at 16.5 pounds (lbs) and needed a tripod, but tripods with that weight capacity aren’t cheap. This camera weighs less at 5.1lbs, but the battery will weigh between two and three pounds and the lens adds another pound and a half to two pounds.

Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro EF Mount

We compared the similarities and differences between this camera and the Canon EOS R5, Z CAM E2-F8 Full-Frame 8K Cinema Camera, RED KOMODO and the Sony FX9. Because this camera shoots HDR, its monitor is 1000nit bright for real HDR preview. When shooting with the sun at our back the brightness helped. If it wasn’t that bright, the limited articulation of the monitor leaves you wanting.

Use of screen

Professional cameras need to be able to handle extreme situations as well as years of heavy use. URSA Broadcast G2 features a super strong magnesium alloy body that’s extremely tough so it can handle the bumps and knocks that consumer cameras cannot handle. The magnesium alloy is lightweight, internally there is a whole separate cooling system that pipes heat from the electronics into the heat exchanger.

New Blackmagic Media Dock

Uncompressed RAW in the Blackmagic records at 4.1 Gbps while with the Canon, Cinema RAW Light records at only 1 Gbps. At less than a quarter the size, Cinema RAW light is much more efficient. However, we must mention that the increased resolution of RAW from the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K means files will inherently be larger. With a fold out LCD screen, you don't need to bring extra monitoring! The monitor simply folds out and pivots up and down, making it super easy to shoot either down low or up high above the crowd.

Shooting in camera in smaller sizes has the advantage of still using the whole area of the sensor and also unlocks higher frame rates. Automatically populated lens data from electronic B4 lenses. Scene average auto exposure in video and extended video mode.

Use the widest range of accessories

To test this, we shot the DSC Labs Xyla 21 dynamic range chart. Each light in the chart is one stop of dynamic range excluding the first one as its set at 100 ire. We were impressed because we saw 15+ stops of dynamic range, and appreciate the surprise over the disappointment of less. The crop factor of a super 35 image sensor is 1.5x, double that to 3x for super 16.

Full Frame Capture at Higher Frame Rates

If you want peeking on, it’s on one page with all of the other shoot assists. The URSA Mini Pro 12K features internal captured 12-bit RAW with a bit rate up to 578 MB/s. It shoots up to 240 frames per second (fps) in 4K, but has an additional crop to super 16. Without a crop to the super 35 sensor, it captures up to 120fps in 8K and 60fps in 12K. It’s a nice feature having 60 frames per second (fps) in 4.6K. Slowed down to 24 fps, that’s 2.5 times slow motion — a good choice for cinematic slowmo.

The E2-F8 is a full-frame camera that captures 8K 12-bit ZRAW internally to Cfast 2.0 media. Though the design of the E2-F8 is for cinema, it’s a modular camera. With a modular camera, you add on what you need for your specific need. So there are no built-in ND, the buttons and form factor make it awkward at best without some serious investment in rigging. Its Super 35 image sensor is nearly 80 megapixels (MP), which is insane. Because 12K is 4 times the resolution of 4K, if the final product is 4K, any noise reduces in size by 4 times.

blackmagic design ursa

URSA CINE 17K

ISO 200, 400 and 800 are noise-free, we would not hesitate to bounce between the three. By ISO 1600 noise enters the image, but not enough that we wouldn’t use ISO 1600. However, it is enough that we wouldn’t shoot any higher than 800 with 1600 there for edge cases.

Nowhere else will you get this much camera for that low of a price. The image quality easily competes with competing cameras that come at ten times the cost. And for the dedicated videographer/cinematographer, the image is going to be far superior to anything you will get out of a mirrorless SLR hybrid. One more thing that could be a benefit or a drawback, depending on your shooting style, is the body format.

With a solid build, innovative capture and specs, the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K is a beast. Because we typically use an URSA Mini 4K in our productions, the differences between the cameras were easy to spot. The most noticeable and high value offering in the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K is its improved dynamic range over the 4K sensor. Blackmagic claims 15 stops of dynamic range in the 4.6K sensor, and compared to the 12 stops on the 4K sensor, it shows. We set up both the 4K and 4.6K URSA Minis with the same lens, distance from the subject, and exposure. The scene was lit to have one side almost over-exposed and the other side in full darkness.

The unique design of the Blackmagic URSA Mini Recorder means it attaches directly to the back of your URSA Broadcast G2 between the camera and the battery. It’s controlled via the USB-C so you don’t have to worry about manually starting or stopping the SSD recorder. Digital film cameras shoot logarithmic colorspace to preserve the dynamic range, which is great for later post production. However, when these files are viewed on a monitor they can look flat and washed out. 3D LUTs solve this problem as they allow you to apply a "look" to the monitor so you get an idea of how the finished images will look when editing. LUTs can be applied temporarily for monitoring only, or they can be recorded into the Blackmagic RAW files for use in post production.

URSA Broadcast G2 has a high quality microphone and professional audio recorder built in so you don’t have to carry any extra sound equipment! That means you can use the built in stereo microphone or you can connect external microphones. The XLR connections have 48V phantom power so you can plug in everything from shotgun to wireless clip on mics. URSA Broadcast G2 also features knobs for adjusting levels and onscreen meters so you can trim audio levels even when shoulder mounted.

Blackmagic Cloud and clip sharing features compatible with and DaVinci Resolve 18.6 or later. Detects camera information embedded in the SDI signal from URSA, URSA Mini and Blackmagic 3G-SDI Shield for Arduino. Holds hard to mount accessories such as wireless receivers, USB disks or phone for streaming. Rotating attachment point for a video light or LED panel to illuminate your subject.

RockHouse is all the ROCK you need!

The Rock’s house is set in Beverly Park, Los Angeles’ most exclusive neighborhood, home to countless A-listers. The ultra-exclusive enclave is home to some of the richest stars alive and is governed by an HOA with very hefty fees ($3,300/month). When hiking in Hocking Hills through miles of beautiful trails, rock formations and waterfalls, you won’t want to leave... People come from all over the world to see the beautiful parks and trails of Hocking Hills. Rock House sits halfway up a 150 foot Black Hand Sandstone cliff, carved out like other features of Hocking Hills by glacial melting millenia ago, and is approximately 25 feet high, 200 feet long, and feet wide.

On April 18, the city’s planning department sent Jacobs and his representative a letter informing them there was a hold on processing the application due to missing information. The letter said Jacobs had 30 days to provide the information or the application would be terminated. “Mayor Bass is working to protect and support tenants living in impacted rent-stabilized units as we build more housing to bring more Angelenos inside. When available, information about the Eagle Rock neighborhood will be included along with local schools and similar real estate listings within the zip code. Colonel F.F. Rempel of Logan in 1835 created a 16-room hotel with livery stable, ballroom and post office. The picnic shelter stands in its place today along with numerous dated carvings in the rocks nearby.

A developer plans to use L.A. mayor's rules to demolish a rent-controlled building in Eagle Rock

For history and archaeology buffs, there is a carving in the rock in the form of a book. The letters carved in it mean ‘in the Fall, Buck Run bananas are ripe – in the frost fall, a wise man takes a wife.’ Buck Run banana is slang for the fruit of the pawpaw tree. Many hundreds of years ago, the small recess in the cave’s rear wall was once used as a baking oven for Native Americans. The Rock House was once known as ‘Robbers Roost’ because it was used as a hideout for ne’er-do-wells like bandits and bootleggers. Malinowski’s death has prompted criticism from some Republican lawmakers in Arkansas who have called for more information from the ATF.

Guide to Oceania Cruises

Other contractors include Baker and Donghia (furnishings), and Rubelli and Kravet (fabrics, custom-made carpets). As result, the fleet was expanded with 1368 new staterooms, and all shipboard restaurants, bars, and lounges will be redesigned and redecorated. New public spaces on these ships include open-floor designed Lobby with Reception Hall (lower level) with Upper Hall (2nd level). They are connected with Grand Staircase (decorated with railings and balustrades) and featuring a large crystal chandelier (with hanging pieces of hand-painted glass). Sister ship to Marina, stunning Riviera was designed to be special in so many ways and reflects a new level of grace and elegance through designer touches, upholstery and fabrics throughout.

Passengers on Riviera are older -- expect most to fall into the 65-plus category, though the age skews younger when itineraries are shorter. Most of them are American, with Canadians, Brits and Australians rounding out the mix, but passengers from many other countries often sail. You'll also find a few families onboard during the summer and around the holidays, when kids are free from the shackles of school. That's because dining and cuisine are deeply entwined with the ship and its programming.

You’re our first priority.Every time.

Overall, the essentials -- your room, the food, the surroundings, the crew -- are top-notch on Insignia, and a vacation with plenty of ports will distract from some of the gaps in programming. The ship has a lot of fans, and the contemporary, elegant look, outstanding dining and interesting itineraries will likely bring more into the fold. Our 2025 Collection reveals a carefully curated selection of new boutique ports across the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, promising unforgettable experiences you cannot have anywhere else.

Vista offers designated areas on the Deck 12 pool deck (forward, starboard corner) and in the smoking lounge on Deck 14 forward, outside Horizons. The latter is a gorgeous space with forest-green walls, but it is entirely indoors. This policy applies to e-cigarettes, pipes and cigars, in addition to regular cigarettes. The pool bar serves all the daiquiris and coladas you can drink while lounging on Vista's gorgeous, resort-style pool deck. Aquamar has a lovely menu of nonalcoholic cocktails, fresh juices, lattes and smoothies. The Martini Bar is the most happening lounge, located near the Grand Dining Room, several specialty restaurants and the casino.

Passengers will also find plenty of power options, from North American and European-style outlets to USB and Lightning charging ports that are located literally everywhere you could think of. Elegant casual resort wear translates into date-night dresses (but not full-on cocktail attire), skirts and blouses or dressy pants and tops for women, and collared shirts and slacks for men. For casual dining, choose the Pizzeria or Terrace Café for your evening meal. When you finish checking in online for your cruise, Oceania will email you a boarding pass that you should print out and bring with you to the terminal.

Guests can listen to a jazz band or 12-piece orchestra, watch a cabaret show or enjoy regional entertainment from the ports of call. The line regularly hosts guest lecturers, from former ambassadors to famous authors. Oceania cruises combine the best of new and old, preserving classic traditions, such as afternoon tea while offering contemporary services like 24-hour Internet access.

If you're the sort of person that prefers traveling in smaller groups, the line's smaller Regatta-class vessels might be a better fit. In fact, every cabin on Vista will be a balcony cabin — a first for the line. Every cabin will have either a full balcony or a more limited French balcony. The ship will have no windowless "inside" cabins or balconyless "ocean-view" cabins. Unveiled about a decade ago, the two ships make up what is known as the Oceania class at Oceania, and — for a few months more, at least — they are the leading lights of the Oceania fleet.

The chandelier in the Grand Dining Room makes the space sparkle, literally, and Versace plates lend an aura of high-end restaurant gravitas to your meals. Oceania consistently invests in its food and wine, most recently adding a full plant-based menu that spans all dining areas. At 684 passengers, the ship is large enough to have most of the familiar attributes of a cruise ship, but onboard the environment is intimate -- and quiet. Revel in the freedom to roam far and wide with our inspiring new 2025 Collection, including Allura's exciting 2025 Inaugural Season. Vacations are meant for adventures, renewing your sense of wonder and wandering in the sunshine. With more than 100 itineraries ranging from 7 to 20 days, plus nearly 50 Grand Voyages, you can easily discover and plan your ideal summer cruise.

Credit Card Reward Programs

Vista is one of the first Oceania cruise ships to use Starlink high-speed internet. I can attest to the speed of Oceania's premium plan after attending a 90-minute Zoom meeting with only the slightest of lag. Crew gratuities are added to your onboard bill and amount to $18 per person, per day, in Concierge-class rooms and below, or $23 per person, per day, in upper-level suites. You are always welcome to tip above the auto-gratuity for exceptional service. Each night, there's a show in the Vista Lounge, either a guest performer or a typical cruise ship song and dance show by the onboard performers. One of the new shows on Vista was choreographed by Britt Stewart, a professional dancer who's worked with "Dancing with the Stars."

Passengers in suites with butler service (Penthouse, Vista, Oceania and Owner's suites) are charged an additional $7 per person, per day. You are welcome to give additional tips to individuals who go above and beyond at your discretion. It's expected that those bringing room service will be tipped (anywhere from $1 to $5, depending on what's ordered) as items are delivered. An 18 percent gratuity is automatically tacked on to bills for spa services, bar drinks and dinner at La Reserve.

The three Owner's Suites span the entire aft width of the ship, with two balconies, and are designed by Ralph Lauren Home. A light-filled grand foyer opens onto the living, dining and bar area on one side and the enormous master bedroom with king-sized bed, walk-in closet and generous bathroom with soaking tub and ocean-view shower. In terms of hardware, Vista is one fine ship, which rivals the vessels belonging to luxury lines like Silversea Cruises and Seabourn, even nipping at the heels of over-the-top sister line Regent Seven Seas Cruises. It's in the "software," so to speak, where the line relegates itself to the upscale sector. Vista also carries a line of nonalcoholic "liquors" to make zero-proof cocktails that taste like the real deal, as well as nonalcoholic beer.

Vista offers a high-end experience on a beautifully designed ship, but you'll have a choice in how you spend your vacation budget rather than paying upfront for all-inclusive fares. When the ship is in international waters, young adults ages 18 to 20 may purchase and drink beer or wine (as well as the House Select beverage package). Vista's cabins and suites offer electrical outlets and USB ports on both sides of the bed and by the desk. Americans may want to bring an adapter for charging devices in public rooms where the outlets are all European-style.

Grand Dining Room (aft restaurant on Deck 5) on each ship received new premium dining furniture (leather chairs with metallic bronze threading) and new crystal chandelier. Martinis (piano bar lounge on Deck 5) was redesigned, new silver-white marble bar top and walnut paneling were added. On June 6, 2022, NCLH announced an expansion of its fleetwide sustainability program "Sail & Sustain". Extending its animal welfare policy, the shipowner is now fully committed to responsible animal food sourcing practices (regarding pork, chicken, eggs, and seafood) within the global fleet's supply chain. A recent renovation to Riviera updated some of the public areas and suite categories as part of the OceaniaNEXT program during an early 2019 dry-dock in Marseille. Its cabins are beautifully designed yet feel comfortable and sensible at the same time.

They offer time before or after the cruise to enjoy the city's food, music and iconic architecture — plus the ease of a round-trip flight booking. Viking's seven-night New Orleans & Southern Charms itinerary focuses solely on ports in Louisiana and Mississippi, with an emphasis on historic architecture, Cajun culture and Civil War landmarks. While cruising, you'll enjoy nightly entertainment that celebrates the region's musical heritage. American Cruise Lines offers this itinerary on four ships from April to October 2024, 2025 and 2026.

American Cruise Lines' 8-Night Columbia & Snake River Cruise

Truly, the river that runs through Nashville – the Cumberland River – is much more than just a geographic feature. Given its lengthy route, the Cumberland River covers a significant portion of Tennessee, wandering through serene forested areas and bursting into the open near the cities. When the city lights hit the water, the river’s surface transforms into a sparkling mirror, reflecting the city’s vibrancy in its undulating ripples. In Nashville, the Cumberland River serves as a focal point for various activities, including riverboat cruises, recreational boating, fishing, and waterfront dining. While “rollin’ down the river,” you’ll enjoy stunning views, a delicious meal freshly prepared by our chefs and toe-tapping entertainment in our two-story Victorian Theater in the center of the boat.

Fun Facts

This river is part of the illustrious river systems that irrigate the United States. Its tributary, the Harpeth River, flows from its point of the Harpeth, cascading gently into the Cumberland River. The interaction of the Cumberland River and the Harpeth River forms picturesque scenery that is beautiful to behold. Tracing its roots to the lower Cumberland, it serves as a reminder that even the most significant things in life start small.

Upcoming Cruises

Cumberland River cruises are enchanting, laidback experiences that usually start or end in Nashville. The "Music City" deserves a day or two to explore and even longer if you're a country music fan. Otherwise, your Cumberland River cruise will likely take you to small towns that you've never heard of in Tennessee and Kentucky.

Spend an afternoon onboard with us where you can sample the many styles of music that made Tennessee famous. The Cumberland River region offers much more than you'd expect to find in the way of food and drink, so open your senses and come hungry. Getting a little refresher course on Civil War history will do little to prepare you for the avalanche of townie tales some smaller museums recite. When you find yourself in a grand home now chocked full of photos, maps and displays, take your time and ask plenty of questions. The entire Cumberland River cruising experience is one of underestimated merit.

New uses of the Cumberland system included flood control and hydroelectric power. In 1923 the Cumberland Hydro-Electric Power Company applied to the Corps of Engineers for three dams in Kentucky. In 1926 the corps recommended three dams of its own between Carthage and Burnside; the great Cumberland floods of December 1926 and January 1927 lent urgency to the request. The presence of the Cumberland River has not only shaped the physical landscape of Nashville but has also influenced its cultural and economic development.

Here are our seven top tips for your Cumberland River cruise so you can enjoy it to the fullest. A cruise in this region is fabulous for foodies, history buffs and even spirit lovers. Shore excursions and on-your-own port explorations may take you to see tobacco fields or production facilities, to moonshine or whiskey distilleries, or to breweries. These are just a few examples of the cruise adventures available on Nashville’s Cumberland River. Whether you’re looking for relaxation, entertainment, or exploration, there’s a cruise experience to suit every taste and interest.

The river systems reiterate the cyclic journey of water, reminding us of nature’s relentless churn and adaptability. During your visit, be sure to look for monkeys, sloths, iguanas, blue-footed boobies, capybaras, crocodiles and even manatees on a jungle boat tour along the canal and into Gatun Lake.

You will likely be safer on a shore excursion, booked through the ship or independently, than if you decide to head on your own into town. If you're not a fan of tours, know that in Colon, city officials have regulated taxis and provided good shopping and cafe facilities at the two main cruise ship docking areas, Colon 2000 and nearby Cristobal Pier.
